SWK 5007.20 - Practice Education B (with accompanying workshops) 500 hours practice experience; accompanying seminars
In Placement Education B students undertake their final 500-hour placement in a community service setting. In this setting, which can include health, aged care, community services, child and family welfare, mental health, community work, research, policy and planning, students will integrate professional social work knowledge and skills and participate meaningfully in the operations of the agency. Students will formulate their own model of practice as a beginning professional social worker (under guidance of Placement Educator/supervisor). On completion of practice placement, students are required to meet the AASW practice standards as a beginning professional social worker and demonstrate fitness to practice. This will be evidenced through the completion of assessment tasks at the Preparation and Integration Seminars; the completion of all Learning Agreement tasks and assessments; and a final assessment task. The placement includes workshops prior to the placement commencing as well as 14 hours of integrative seminars. As the second placement, students will build-upon and extend the foundations of social work practice they established in the first placement. They will nurture and draw-upon the professional relationships established in the first placement and extend their professional networks through the second placement. Students will reassess career goals and directions informed by the first placement and perhaps change directions through the second placement. Students will continue their process of continuous improvement through working from the strengths they identified in the first placement and executing the self-improvement goals they set[JP1] .
