SWK 4007.20 - Practice Education A (with accompanying workshops) 500 hours practice experience; accompanying seminars

Placement Education A is the first of two placements that students are required to complete to qualify with an MSWQ. Students will complete 500 hours in each placement, within an approved industry partner agency. All learning tasks will be supervised by a qualified social worker. Students will participate in the range of activities, tasks, and processes that the agency delivers, by negotiation with the supervisor and subject to agency rules and procedures. Students will observe other workers, participate in the operations of the agency (under direct supervision), and critically analyse and articulate their developing professional practice framework. Students will be required to attend and participate in relevant assessable tasks. The placement hours include workshops prior to the placement commencing as well as 14 hours of integrative seminars. This is the first of two placements designed to ensure that students meet the requirements of the AASW accreditation standards. As the first placement, students will build the foundations of social work practice, establish professional networks, inform career decisions and commence a process of continuous improvement through acknowledging strengths, limitations, challenges, opportunities and personal goals.
