IT5008.10 Applied Cybersecurity

This subject will cover the theory and practice of cyber security, focusing on various cyber threats to business continuity and methods of mitigation. Students will learn to filter and analyse the network data to improve the network Cybersecurity. They will also learn how to analyse and mitigate cyberattacks, network attacks and computer malware. It will emphasise how emerging technologies, including Blockchain, AI, and Machine learning are used to achieve cybersecurity against threats and vulnerabilities. Practical lab work includes tools like Wireshark, Ethereum, and Kali Linux. Case studies and use cases will be discussed and analysed to identify, prevent, block, and mitigate the risks of cyber threats. Students will also learn how machine learning is used in distributed denial of service, and how to block malicious URLs. The deployment of deep learning to identify and prevent financial fraud will be introduced.
