IT4003.10 - Database Systems
This subject focuses on the conceptual and practical aspects of designing, developing and managing relational database systems. The main concepts covered include the relational database model, structured query language, entity relationship modelling and normalisation. Students will develop skills in database design, from conceptual design to physical implementation, indexing, transaction processing and database administration. This subject also guides students in applying SQLite as a database management software tool for the development of a small scale database using fictitious data as well as SQL commands for making routine interactions with the database The subject further assist learners to appreciate the evolving nature of database technologies for cloud-based systems, and new storage structures.
