Master Of Engineering Management
ENG4002.10 - Managing People and Organisations
This subject introduces students to frameworks and approaches relevant to managing people and organisations. Students learn about the role of a manager using POLC and other frameworks, including Cynefin. Key discussion areas include the relationship between organisational culture, leadership, employees, and performance, including change management and conflict/issue management. The subject aims to develop competencies required for managers to succeed in diverse workplace teams, as well as interpersonal, communication, team management and team leadership skills. Students complete a variety of assessments (including role-plays, research assessments, reflections, and case studies) to develop knowledge of management frameworks and approaches applied to engineering contexts. Individual students set up a program-based professional portfolio, which is to track and facilitate professional learning and development across all subjects of the MEM program. This is done by self-assessing their competencies at the start of each subject/semester and setting personal learning goals to work on the development of their skills and competencies, and to be prepared for the real world of work after graduation.
