History of biometrics. Fingerprint recognition, manual matching, template extraction, robustness, and accuracy. Facial recognition; facial recognition technology, robustness and reliability. Eye biometrics; iris scanning technology, reliability, and its accuracy. Handwritten signature verification; various methods, implementations, and limitations. Keystroke dynamics, digraphs, and limitations. Biometric testing, evaluation and comparison of the various techniques. Multi-modal biometric techniques. Privacy and legal concerns in using biometrics. Applications of biometric technology. How would an intruder go about achieving success via identity theft for each biometric and strategies that can prevent this from happening. Fundamentals of intrusion detection systems (IDS), including terminology, threats, technologies, and attack signatures. Evaluation of IDS, anomaly detection systems and algorithms, network behaviour based anomaly detectors, masquerade and impersonation.
