IT3010.10 – Biometrics

This subject prepares students for industry transition by exploring the evolution and application of biometric technologies for identity verification and authentication, examining biometric modalities including fingerprint, facial, iris, retina, voice, behavioural, and DNA-based systems. Students evaluate biometric technologies by considering user identity, usability, privacy, and organisational requirements alongside technical implementation, security, system robustness, performance, and scalability. The subject also addresses biometric system vulnerabilities, enterprise deployment, performance evaluation, and the selection of appropriate solutions for diverse organisational contexts. By the end of the subject, students are prepared for industry transition by applying practical knowledge and professional judgement to support secure digital identity management, forensic technology, and enterprise authentication systems.
