IT2040.10 – Web Technology

This subject develops students’ knowledge and skills in introductory theories and techniques for web design, with a strong emphasis on user-based application and experience. The history of the web and its distinction from the Internet are explored to provide contextual grounding. The primary focus is the development of websites, particularly the design of visual and interactive elements that are appropriate for users and their needs. Students critically evaluate existing websites to assess their effectiveness in achieving intended purposes and user outcomes. The subject also develops capabilities in website organisational frameworks, navigation system design, and principles of visual design, as well as differences between static and dynamic web pages and scripting. In addition, students develop competencies in HTML, CSS styling, and dynamic web page creation using scripting technologies, applying these skills to design and build user-centred, functional, and interactive websites.
