IT1200 - Cybersecurity & Large Language Models

This subject introduces foundational cybersecurity principles, threats, and controls with a practical, hands‑on focus suitable for undergraduate learners. This subject introduces students to practical career focussed knowledge and skills. Students working in Information Technology departments within a diversity of business contexts will need to know which Large Language Models (LLMs) to use for what purposes, how to use them most appropriately and how to keep businesses safe through practical cybersecurity measures.

Students will develop core skills in identifying common attack types, applying security, and interpreting network and host telemetry using beginner‑friendly tools. The subject also integrates essential LLM topics: safe and responsible use of LLMs in cyber tasks, risks specific to LLM‑enabled, defensive pattern concepts for LLM applications. It emphasises how emerging technologies, including Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning are used to achieve cybersecurity against threats and vulnerabilities.
