Bachelor of Information Technology

IT1040.10 – Linear Algebra

This subject introduces the practical and theoretical foundations of linear algebra and its application to modelling, analysing, and solving real-world technical and business problems. Students learn how linear algebra supports decision-making, optimisation, and efficient computation through topics such as systems of linear equations, matrices, vector spaces, linear transformations, eigenvalues, and eigenvectors. Using computer software and applied examples, students develop the skills to perform matrix-based calculations, interpret and justify solutions, and apply linear algebra techniques to industry-relevant scenarios including data modelling, system analysis, and algorithm design. The subject emphasises analytical reasoning, problem-solving, and technical communication, preparing students with mathematical skills valued across technology and business professions.
