IT1001.10 – Information Technology in Context and Communication Skills

This subject introduces students to contemporary Information Technology and its role within organisational, social, legal, ethical, and global contexts, while developing the professional communication skills expected of emerging IT practitioners. Students explore how digital systems operate within business and society, alongside the professional standards, responsibilities, and ethical considerations of IT practice. The subject builds core communication capabilities including academic and professional writing, technical explanations for diverse audiences, collaboration, presentations, and reflective practice, supported by research skills, information literacy, referencing, and academic integrity. Through authentic, industry-aligned activities, students develop the foundational skills required for further IT study and workplace success, enabling them to communicate technical and non-technical ideas clearly, ethically, and effectively across different contexts.
