IT1000.10 – Introduction to Problem Solving and Algorithms

Algorithms are step-by-step instructions for solving problems and are central to all areas of information technology, enabling computers to produce accurate, consistent and efficient outcomes when handling complex tasks and large datasets. They are widely used across fields such as cybersecurity for encryption and anomaly detection, software development for input validation and performance optimisation, and data and AI for pattern recognition and predictive modelling. In this subject, students will engage with industry-relevant case studies to identify, analyse and improve existing algorithms before progressing to designing their own. By the end of the subject, students will be able to apply algorithmic thinking in practical contexts and demonstrate relevant skills for their professional portfolios.
