Master Of Engineering Management
ENG4003.10 - Business Analysis and Decision Making
This subject provides students with an understanding of the key concepts and frameworks relevant to business analysis and decision-making, with consideration for various factors such as social, commercial, and ethical requirements and expectations of stakeholders. The context of businesses and work in Australia, and an overview of business analysis and decision-making with relevance to engineering, sets the foundation for the subject. Students gain an understanding of how business analysis is carried out and the key techniques to be used at each stage, including strategy analysis and business analysis process, stakeholders, modelling business processes, analysing gaps, and developing business and financial cases. Students also learn how to establish, document, and manage requirements and ensure solutions align with business needs. Students engage in weekly class discussions and have the opportunity to apply their knowledge to worked examples and activities. Assessment tasks also provide students with the opportunity to gain contextualised knowledge relevant to analysing a business through the application of weekly learnings, as well as developing teamwork and communication skills. Individual students set up a program-based professional portfolio, which is to track and facilitate professional learning and development across all subjects of the MEM program. This is done by self-assessing their competencies at the start of each subject/semester and setting personal learning goals to work on the development of their skills and competencies, and to be prepared for the real world of work after graduation.
